Coming soon! A new Robert Louis Stevenson novel, The Great North Road, to coincide with the writer's 175 anniversary on November 13th 2025.
After pirates and adventures at sea, Stevenson turned his attention to highwaymen and adventures on land. The Great North Road is a rollicking tale of murder, mayhem, day light robbery and doomed love. Stevenson, distracted by illness and the pressure of deadlines, wrote 19000 words then put the work aside. Acting as a literary sleuth, Stuart Campbell eventually located a list of intended chapter headings scribbled by Stevenson. With this as a guide, and after a robust discussion with the abandoned characters, Campbell completed the unfinished tale.
Not for the faint hearted, the novel, illustrated by Charles Keeping reaches a powerful and startling climax. Is justice served? Are the wicked punished? Does love conquer all? You will have to be patient until the autumn publication date.
